Steve Jobs was reported as saying that the new iPhone 4 was going to be the thinnest smart phone on the planet. The phone also stands 4.5 inches high and is 2.31 inches wide. In all, the depth from the last version to the iPhone 4 was reduced by over 20%, a significant change that some will find more economical while others complain that it is not substantial enough – personal tastes are bound to vary.

Sony Ericsson x10 and Nokia N900 Prepared to Battle for iPhone Throne

$50 Million Invested by AT&T to Upgrade Its 3G Network in Dallas, Expansion Planned

AT&T has revealed that it recently spent $50 million to upgrade signal strength for its 3G network, in the Dallas area alone, as part of planned expansions to ensure customers have better coverage. This upgrade is part of a larger effort to boost signal within structures and ensure better reception for customers, a large portion of whom use Apple’s iPhone. According to recent press reports, the company’s focus on customer service has led them in this direction in response to the massive levels of incoming users of the network due to high sales of iPhones and other devices that tax the system with heavy data transfers.
In addition to the original 1900 MHz 3G signal, AT&T’s multimillion dollar investment is intended to expand the wireless spectrum in the 850 MHz band. This signal expansion should carry better through homes and office buildings to give customers better performance. Previously unseen levels of data usage due to iPhone users has meant that between the second quarter of 2006 and the second quarter of 2009, AT&T’s network has seen wireless data transfer levels rise by 5,000 per cent. Since Apple launched the iPhone in 2007 and the device only has service available through AT&T’s service, the smart phone is believed to be the primary reason for this remarkable increase.

Apple’s iPhone 3G Case Susceptible to Cracks?

According to a growing number of iPhone 3G users, small cracks are appearing on the plastic case of their iPhone 3G’s. Most of these reported cracks have been found around the edges of the iPhone 3G case and near the headphone jack. These cracks are more common on white iPhone 3G’s and are rare on black iPhone 3G’s. The cracks take anywhere from a day to a week or two from purchase to appear. Apple’s retail stores are replacing these defective units on the spot, free of any charge. Seemingly Apple has identified the problem and is taking the necessary steps to rectify the issue and satisfy affected customers.

Australia to Get Fastest iPhone

In recent reports it was stated that Australia will have the fastest 3G iPhone in the world. This report was from a senior executive of Telstra. He stated that “By Xmas this phone will be capable of 42MBS, which will make it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world”. The new 3G version of the iPhone is expected to be available very soon after a possible unveiling on June 9th. Other reports have stated that Telstra has already been given 3G iPhones for testing.
