If you think that the iPhone is produced by mixing pixie dust and glitter in a magical cauldron, think again. Apple has their iPhones manufactured in a factory in Shenzhen, which is in the Pearl River Delta . In layman’s terms, Apple products are made in China. People have long debated on whether or not it is ethical to produce expensive electronics by way of cheap labor, but the people of Shenzhen will soon have something to celebrate about. As Apple is one of the most profitable companies in the world, the owners of the Foxconn factory, where Apple, Sony and Dell products are made, have been prosperous beyond their wildest dreams. Because of this, China is now planning to expand the Pearl River Delta and surrounding cities into a real life ‘land of milk and honey.’ The expansion of the area will take about six years, and once complete 42 million Chinese citizens will have a new address. The place where the iPhone is made will soon become a bustling super-city, with trains, planes and automobiles connecting this technological hub to the rest of the country.

Shanghai and Hong Kong are two of the most expensive cities in the world, but after Shenzhen’s makeover is complete it may just surpass them. Don’t expect to get access to cheaper iPhones in the future just because Shenzhen is being expanded. However, if you are planning on taking a trip to China in the next 10 years you might be able to apply for a job at the acclaimed Foxconn factory so that you can get a discount.

A lot of great points have been addressed with the latest iPhone incarnation and it appears that Apple once again has a winner in the smart phone world, but there are still detractors. For many, one element holds the key to everything that wins them over when it comes to a smart phone: the intelligence of its design. In the past, critics and reviewers have gotten close to having all out mud slinging wars with their opinions over smart phone designs and it appears that when it comes to the iPhone 4, it is much of the same. Some love the new design and some hate it, but one thing is clear: it is a great deal different than the iPhone models before.

Steve Jobs was reported as saying that the new iPhone 4 was going to be the thinnest smart phone on the planet. Whether or not this will remain true for long remains to be seen, but for now it is true that the depth of this current iPhone is a mere .37 inches compared with the .48 inches of the iPhone 3GS that came before it. The phone also stands 4.5 inches high and is 2.31 inches wide. In all, the depth from the last version to the iPhone 4 was reduced by over 20%, a significant change that some will find more economical while others complain that it is not substantial enough – personal tastes are bound to vary.

Thanks to the genius of the iPhone 4’s designer Jonathan Ive, many of the bulges and general shape issues that users complained about in the past have been eliminated. Ive was able to streamline the phone and at the same time make sure it featured a chemically strengthened form of aluminosilicate glass that was many times stronger than plastic – in fact, it is rated 30 times harder than plastic – which allows it to be scratch proof to a whole new degree.

Those wanting an iPhone 4 at the best price need to check out Dialaphone mobile phone deals today to get the best prices.

One thing is for certain when it comes to the way that the smart phone industry is shaping up and that is that the world will be seeing a battle of behemoth corporations that will put a Godzilla movie to shame, according to industry analysts. Given the tremendously vast markets that have embraced the Apple iPhone, additional competition is expected to lower prices across the board and have the effect of bringing a huge number of new customers into the fold. With the arrival of the Sony Ericsson x10, a device which will leverage the Google Android operating system, Apple definitely must be ready to slim itself down and prepare to fight for its market because the x10 offers a great deal that consumers have been asking for, not the least among these the ability to choose T-Mobile over the AT&T network with which the iPhone is aligned.

When taken as a single threat, perhaps the x10 does not appear to be quite so much of a menace just yet since it is still getting started, but this is not so with the Nokia n900, a truly devastating shot at the iPhone crown. The powerful device leverages Linux and a cellular modem in order to provide lightning quick broadband web access without the need for a local WiFi signal. This alone poses a genuine threat to the iPhone, but when the Fennec browser was added with its Flash capabilities, Apple got a genuine taste of exactly what real competition might feel like. It isn’t only Nokia and Sony that Apple will be battling, but a range of other competitors, as well. The facts show that the iPhone is going to have to battle long and hard if it expects to keep its so far unchallenged market share in the future since experts predict more competition on the horizon.

AT&T has revealed that it recently spent $50 million to upgrade signal strength for its 3G network, in the Dallas area alone, as part of planned expansions to ensure customers have better coverage. This upgrade is part of a larger effort to boost signal within structures and ensure better reception for customers, a large portion of whom use Apple’s iPhone. According to recent press reports, the company’s focus on customer service has led them in this direction in response to the massive levels of incoming users of the network due to high sales of iPhones and other devices that tax the system with heavy data transfers.
In addition to the original 1900 MHz 3G signal, AT&T’s multimillion dollar investment is intended to expand the wireless spectrum in the 850 MHz band. This signal expansion should carry better through homes and office buildings to give customers better performance. Previously unseen levels of data usage due to iPhone users has meant that between the second quarter of 2006 and the second quarter of 2009, AT&T’s network has seen wireless data transfer levels rise by 5,000 per cent. Since Apple launched the iPhone in 2007 and the device only has service available through AT&T’s service, the smart phone is believed to be the primary reason for this remarkable increase.

According to a growing number of iPhone 3G users, small cracks are appearing on the plastic case of their iPhone 3G’s. Most of these reported cracks have been found around the edges of the iPhone 3G case and near the headphone jack. These cracks are more common on white iPhone 3G’s and are rare on black iPhone 3G’s. The cracks take anywhere from a day to a week or two from purchase to appear. Apple’s retail stores are replacing these defective units on the spot, free of any charge. Seemingly Apple has identified the problem and is taking the necessary steps to rectify the issue and satisfy affected customers.
